Blogging Inspiration

Blogging inspiration .... where do you get yours?

Yesterday while the eggs in the picture were cooking for my breakfast I dashed to the bathroom and did my make up for a day out at Mum's.  I completed my usual routine in the time it took the eggs to cook, I like mine with just a touch of runniness in the centre ... so four minutes!!

I did a post about streamlining my makeup bag a couple of years ago ... it's been streamlined even more since then, gone is the brown mascara and the foundation and in has come a Touche Eclat concealer pen to join the clear mascara and pressed powder.  I just rock the' natural look', it's me down to the ground :-)

As I dashed back to the kitchen with thirty seconds to spare I thought to myself  "now there's inspiration for a blog post".

Yesterdays post about photogenic animals was brought about by deleting lots of unwanted photos off the computer. A couple of blogging buddy John Gray's posts this week were inspired by comments left on previous posts and triggered whole pages of him learning more about us than we about him.  It made for very good reading.

As bloggers we bounce off each others ideas and lives and learn as we do so, it keeps this wonderful world of blogging fresh and interesting and yes, inspiring.

Sometimes of course the opposite happens and lots of us dry up or fizzle out for a while only to come back, usually re-energised and reinvigorated after a blogging break, sometimes with new blog names or a fresh new look to an old but favourite blog.  We all need a bit of space sometimes and the energy to try out new ideas, and mostly all it takes is a break or a flash of inspiration.

I get my inspiration from all sorts of places.  A chicken doing something unexpected or simply keeling over and dying, flowers on a bush that should be closing down for the Winter, a dog walk that has my lovely trio fascinated by smells or sights unusual to them, new shoots coming through in the polytunnel emerging from dark, moist, home produced compost.  It doesn't take much to spark my imagination ...  a make up routine done in the time it takes to boil an egg .

Where do you get your inspiration, and if you don't blog yourself which sort of blog reading inspires your imagination and perhaps makes you think it was time you did?

Sue xx

  1. I feel like I am running out of things to write about, I even think my blog must be boring to most, my days are simple but we are happy, and I am enjoying blog land.

    1. I went through a phase like that in the early days. My blog is for my family and a diary in general. Others find it interesting for the most part and even if they don't, it lets my family know what we are up to.

  2. I usually post to my blog every day, but it sometimes gets hard to find something new to write about. During the growing season most of my posts are about the garden, but in the Winter I often write more about food and cooking. My posts about the garden serve as a diary for me, recording what I grew, when I sowed it / planted / harvested it, and how well it did, so I would write them even if no-one read them!

  3. I have had a huge break - commented on other blogs but not written on my own. I lost wireless for most of August and then never got back into it - also Fb is so much quicker!
But I have started writing a couple of updates today so hopefully have got back into it :)

  4. On my View from the Teapot blog I struggle to find iinspiration...on Fat Dormouse Getting Thinner (which is a misnomer at the moment!) I talk mostly about food. I sometimes shamelessly steal ideas for blog pĂ´sts from other bloggers!

  5. I found my blogposts i'm most pleased with tend to be the ones that just randomly come to me whilst having 10 minutes lie down or hoovering or some other activity where you're not actually thinking as such.
Sometimes I lose all blogging motivation, and then suddenly I'll sit down and write a list of possible things I can blog about and I'm back in the flow again :)

  6. My blog 'Tahoe girl' @christina1952.wordpress.com, is really just me writing about everyday stuff. I like and am a minimalist(mostly), love cooking, reading and walking. Nothing too great in my blogs and I don't go in for outlining how to do this or this and ,honestly, that irrates me. Especially since we are near retirement age but my husband still needs to work full time and we have very little retirement accumulated, so when I read people's retirement suggestions about clipping coupons, using the library etc, I feel a little nuts. Why? Because most have enough money in their retirement accounts, or they own their house outright. So, it's all fine and good to talk about being frugal in retirement when the bank account has enough. Enough of that,. I really like your blog because it's down to earth and charming. I have chickens so I can relate. Plus, what you've done to your property is amazing.
I like also minimalist blogs mostly to see pictures of how their spaces look ,to get ideas.
I love food blogs, like smitten kitchen and pioneer woman. Just good ideas all around .
    Thanks ,for keeping it real☺️

  7. I don't have my own blog but I find them fascinating. I only began reading blogs a year ago when I made a decision to try and simplify our lives if possible, partly due to the fact that I finished going out to work. The things I enjoy reading about are matters related to simplifying stuff, attempting minimalism , living frugally but not going without, household tips, pets, beauty products/tips, recipes. I've noticed that a few bloggers appear to have gone off on a tangent and I can't relate to these any more. On the whole I find it very interesting to see how you all live. P.S. This might be a record but I've had the same Touche Eclat concealer pen for over 10 years!! It smells a bit funny though but still does the job.

    1. Be careful if it smells a bit funny, it could be a bit of bacteria building up :-(

I managed to get three when they were on offer earlier this year, so I have two in hand, they last me at least a year if not longer. Ten years must be a Touche Eclat record!!

  8. Ooh ! Great subject, Sue.
My blog started out with the intent of bundling recipes that friends and family asked for. You know, someone asks you for the recipe of this or that. You write it all down nicely. Give it to them and then the next time you see them they ask for it again, because they lost it !!
It has veered off from the recipes somewhat. Always living in other countries, away from many friends and family, it is nice for them to see what we're up to.
I've taken many looong breaks over the years, but now I'm trying to catch up with all the happenings from the past 2 years or so.
My brain is full of ideas. I just need to find the time to write them down and post.
I get 'life' inspiration from blogs such as yours and food blogs.

  10. There are a lot of things which go unwritten on my blog (CodlinsandCream2) - sometimes, especially when I am out for a walk - ideas and descriptions jostle each other for space, but it is gone by the time I get back to the computer. There are subjects which I feel very strongly about but don't inflict on other people, and also things (such as archaeology and history) which are my starter for ten, but when I write about them no-one comments, so from that I assume that my interests are not necessarily shared.

I just write about my life and what interests me, and I hope that other people enjoy reading about it.

  11. My blog posts vary in length according to whether I have a good idea or not. I prefer to post early in the day if I can, and try and think of a topic the day before. That doesn't always happen and I can get to teatime and my head is empty, so I bash out a few words which might be a bit crappy. Sometimes something comes of that, and I have an idea to turn it round into something interesting.

I do pick up a few ideas from other bloggers but try not to use them until a respectable length of time has passed, I don't want to be accused of copying. I sometimes notice that other bloggers have picked up on my ideas. Recently I did some photo's from my village, and noticed that someone else did the same and posted pictures of their village. We all bounce off each other I think.

    1. There's nothing wrong with bouncing off each other ... but outright copying ... unless you link back to the blog that inspired you .... is a bit naughty isn't it.

I'd love to copy your idea and post pictures of a walk around our village, except we don't live in one ... Lol :-)

  12. Sue, great question. I guess inspiration comes from writing what I think others might enjoy, or maybe just posting a picture that tells a story by itself. Sometimes memes are inspiration to at least get something written in your space.

  13. Hi Sue, I only started my blog this year having been persuaded to do so by a friend. For me it is purely and simply about writing down the memories for my kids. Whenever I get together with my brothers and sisters (which isn't often as we are all pretty far flung) we end up laughing about all the silly old stuff. My kids love the old stories too so I decided to write things down as I thought of them with a view to making a book out of it for our own consumption, whenever I am ready. I have most of my mom's old black and white photos and I want those faces to have a permanent name and I want the stories that go with them to be remembered also. That being said, I do write down day to day happenings when I feel like it and enjoy looking back over it. As an idea comes to mind I just write it down on a piece of paper and get round to putting it into words as and when. It really was only ever meant for our consumption but if anyone else reads it and gets in touch that is an added bonus for me.

  14. Haven't had boiled eggs for breakfast since Uni days. Used to have them at breakfast, while the bizarre rotating toaster did its thing with the bread.

  15. I have become a very boring Blogger. I used to get ideas while I walked the dog. I hardly post at all these days. I read about six favourite Blogs.

I love boiled eggs too xx

  17. I now run 3 blogs, with the gardening one having now wound down to nothing, so I concentrate mainly on two and my facebook group for cookery, too. Inspiration comes from a wide variety of subjects, other blogs I read and subjects I might come across throughout my otherwise boring life, lol. I also find myself picking up on some internet subject that get posted on my main facebook page, so will weave some of that into a new blog post as well. I tend to get inspiration from my surroundings, too and often blog about cycling outing or walks I`ve been on as well. It`s a mixture of allsorts for me.

  18. I write about anything that I think might be interesting that's happening in my life. The main focus is eating cheaply and I've found that reading cook books often provides inspiration. I will occasionally post about a recipe directly, always credited of course. But more often, a recipe will be used as inspiration where I've gone off in a different direction with it, or taken the spirit of it and frugalised it to fit in with £1 a day
Sometimes its books I've been reading, particularly good or bad ones. Politics can get a head of steam up, but don't like doing that too often, I prefer to be politically neutral in blog land

  19. I love blogging and always read my favourites. I had a bit of a respite over the summer as I didn't really have anything if interest to say really. I guess I'd just got bogged down in over thinking things. I started again today so reading this post was quite timely really and good inspiration. Thank you x

  21. I have lots more blog posts rattling around in my head than ever make it onto the page! Sometimes I look through folders of photos on my computer, which make me think "oh, I meant to write about that...and that...and when we did that...". Probably more a sign that I haven't been blogging very long, I suspect.

  22. I blog twice a week, "Whether I need to or not," but actually I'm not really at the stage of drying up. Between having so many hobbies and pets, and also updating what is happening with my novel writing, I mostly have to pick and choose from ideas. Inspirations come from music, nature, the animals and plants I care for, crochet, our volunteer fire brigade, druidry, art, and of course my writing. I do love to go back through old photos and scan them to do story posts about loved pets long gone. It's great to have the whole story and best photos all there together. I can see why a fellow blogger said she makes a printed year book of all her blog posts at the end of each year!
